Kenjin-Tatsujin Council Member Dr. Shigeaki Hinohara passes away at 105

On July 18, 2018, Kenjin-Tatsujin International Advisory Council Member Dr. Shigeaki Hinohara passed away peacefully from respiratory complications at the age of 105. Dr. Hinohara had been the Honorary President of St. Luke’s International Hospital.

During his long career as a physician at St Luke’s hospital in Tokyo, Dr. Hinohara introduced innovative medical checkup systems that have become common across Japan, and contributed in many other ways to public health and wellbeing. Although over 100 years of age, he always kept himself busy and had a full schedule for the next two to three years.

Dr. Hinohara was also a keen supporter of the Ashinaga Africa Initiative through his involvement in the Kenjin-Tatsujin International Advisory Council and greatly energized by its vision and scale. Ashinaga will continue to emulate Dr. Hinohara’s great example of devoting oneself to the good of society, which will surely be a fitting tribute to his memory.
